ALERTS:
Posted 8/28/2010 @ 10:50 pm: The league is full...but a few teams are in need of additional solid pitching and are willing to take extra players who pitch. Contact Mark Kuzemka at
or 630-514-4326 from a phone that can receive texts if you wish to play and fit that profile.
Posted 8/26/2010 @ 10:00 pm: Note to Colt parents and players: I know we are all looking forward to opening weekend. Our volunteers have worked hard all offseason getting everything ready for a successful launch of the 2010 fall season. We have a full 24 team league, with a good mix of older and younger teams and pre-formed and league-formed teams. A hard working group of managers and coaches have been readying their teams for an exciting and competitive season, but not every game will be a close one; as such, good sportsmanship by all, per our code of conduct is expected throughout the season. If a player gets ejected, he sits the next game, no matter what the reason. Your manager will be the primary contact for rainouts, cancellations, etc. If there any league-wide updates, such as a full slate of rain-outs, or a general update on field conditions on a dreary day, I will use this tab to provide such information (for umpires too).
Schedule updates will be placed on the Colt schedule tab. Always use that tab, not the league-wide schedule pages, for the most up-to-date schedule information. Manager contact information is on that tab too. Relax, have fun and enjoy the Wasco Colt Fallball season!

WASCO COLT FALLBALL INFORMATION:
The Wasco Colt Fallball League is a very unique league in the Chicago area. It is one of the few HS aged fallball leagues that includes players from all four HS years. This provides an opportunity for younger players to really see how they stack up against the older players and allows them to begin a four year HS baseball journey with a clear picture of their stengths, what they need to work on and what it takes to be successful at the varsity level.
Q&As:
Is it a competitive league?
It is a very competitive league, but all levels of play are invited. For example, last year's end of season tournament champion, the DeKalb Blue
team, contained key members of the 3A runner-up DeKalb High School team in the 2010 IHSA baseball tournament.
We are a younger team; how will we have a chance to win?
Scheduling is done on an unbalanced, aged based format, meaning that older teams will play the other older teams and younger teams will play the other younger teams, in addition to select games across all age groups. The league is self-correcting, in that there are Gold, Silver and Bronze tournaments at the end of the season; the tournament you play in is based on your final league standings. That being said, expect to lose more games than you win, but also expect to be better for the experience.
How long is the season? When does it begin and end?
We are planning on a 12 game season this year, followed by an end of season tournament, plus up two bonus games. However, please note that rainouts and cancellations initiated by the teams will NOT be made up. This year, the season will begin the weekend BEFORE Labor Day. The bonus games will be played Labor Day Weekend, for those teams that can play that weekend. The regular season will be ending October 10th, followed by a two weekend single elimination tournament, with a rainout weekend for the tournament included.
How often do teams practice?
It varies from team to team. Some practice weekly, some none at all. Some teams practice on Wasco fields, some don't. It's fallball; school is in session and other sports are played this time of year, so there are no minimum requirements for practice.
Are rainouts made-up?
Rainouts and cancellations initiated by the teams for other reasons will NOT be made up.
Where are the teams from? Where are games played?
Most games are played on Wasco's Glenwood and Brown Road (Anderson Park) Colt fields, but some teams host games at their local HS fields (e.g., Geneva and DeKalb). Last year, we had 24 teams, with teams from DeKalb, Morris, Sandwich, Batavia, Geneva, West Chicago, Sugar Grove, South Elgin, Burlington, St. Charles and Wasco, and players from 23 different high schools participating.
I am in HS, but I am Pony-aged. Can I still play Colt?
Yes. A freshman entering HS, even if not of age, can automatically play Colt. When registering in Pony, check the play-up flag and use the Comments field to indicate you are in high school and wish to play in Colt.
I am in 8th grade. Can I still play Colt?
If you were born within a year of the cutoff date (April 30, 1996), you can play up to Colt if you have played travel or all-star baseball. Register in Pony and check the play-up flag. Use the Comments field to indicate the rationale for the request.
How do you form rosters?
Some teams come in with full rosters, some partial and some players sign up as individuals. I try to place individuals who have signed up on teams that have other players from their high school, towns or areas, but I cannot guarantee that will happen. The rosters are not balanced, but every year I have been doing this, every team has won at least one game and every team has lost at least one game.
When will I be contacted by a manager?
Managers will receive complete rosters the night of the managers' meeting (Monday, August 16th). I will ask that managers contact all players by Thursday, August 19th. If you have not heard from a manager by that Friday morning, then feel free to contact me.
Do you honor requests from players when forming rosters?
This is the fourth year I have been doing Colt and I have always honored any request that has come through before I draft the rosters, unless a player had requested to play for a specific manager and the manager has already come in with a full roster. I will draft the rosters by August 4th. Examples of requests include: being placed on the same team with certain players, from certain areas, that only plays DHs, where the player is likely to pitch, that does / does not practice a lot, etc. After that date, players will be placed on rosters with available spots.
It's early August and I see Wasco Colt teams practicing already; how is that possible?
Some teams come in with full rosters, so they make their own arrangements to practice outside of the Wasco program. They are not an official Wasco member team as of yet, so they may do what they wish, at their own risk.
I am a manager; the registration system indicated there are no more team slots available. Can I still bring my team in?
Maybe not...however, if you have a partial team, or if you can provide a home field, we may be able to do accommodate. And sometimes there are drops. Please call me directly to discuss availability, from a phone that can receive texts: 630-514-4326. Mark Kuzemka, Colt Commissioner.
